Arwen Foley began working in AA Roadwatch in April 2007, her first traffic broadcasts were on Newstalk, and she can now be heard on RTE Radio 1, 2fm and Lyric fm. In June 2011, Arwen took over as AA Roadwatch Assistant Team Leader.
A glutton for punishment, Arwen joined Roadwatch in the middle of her final year exams at Griffith College in Dublin, where she graduated with first class honours, in Journalism & Visual Media. Arwen also has a FETAC Certificate for Photography and two City and Guilds Diplomas in Media Techniques.
Her Dad is responsible for the unusual name; it comes from his favourite book Lord of The Rings. Arwen - played by Liv Tyler in the movies, is the elfin princess.
Arwen has always shown an interest in broadcasting. From a very young age, her parents described her as vocal and often hard to shut up! She began her journey into Irish media with work experience in the RTE Television Newsroom and in college she spent time at Today FM, working as a runner on the Last Word, the Sunday Business Show and The Sunday Supplement. She was also elected News Director of her College radio station Griff FM.
She loves to travel and has visited, among other places, Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Mauritius. Arwen is renowned for being an unlucky traveller, with ash clouds, tropical illnesses, a severed Achilles tendon and a bout of measles attempting to ruin her trips. One holiday in Cuba, ended sooner than expected when Hurricane Ivan, a force 5 storm forced her to evacuate to Canada!
