Ronan Gilligan has been working for AA Roadwatch since June 2005 and broadcasts on RTE Radio 1 & Lyric FM.
Ronan had a strong interest in radio from a very early age. "My earliest memory of radio was being sick from school and listening to Gay Byrne on his morning program. There was something about his style that I absolutely loved, so much so that I would fake a sicky just so I could stay home and listen to him!" Ronan also had a huge interest in travel and after his leaving cert he worked at any job that came his way so he could save up money to go traveling. His first port of call was Australia and after that it took ten years and a lot of countries to get rid of the travel bug.
When Ronan returned from his travels he spent a number of years working in the banking sector before he decided that he needed a dramatic change in his life and took a chance on his first love, Radio. He enrolled in a 2 year Radio Production Course in Liberties College. After receiving high marks he was recommended by his college to work on the final edition of RTE's Radio 1 production ‘Getting it Right’, presented by Ryan Tubridy. Ronan also assisted on the first broadcast of Marian Finnucan's program when she moved from weekdays to the weekend.
While in college Ronan worked for two community radio stations, Dublin South Community Radio in Nutgrove, Rathfarnham and Liber8 Fm in the Digital Hub in the Liberties.
