AA Signs

Temporary road signs for festivals, exhibitions and events

Since 1912, the AA has been providing road signage on Irish roads. The AA is the leading signs provider of temporary directional road signs for festivals, exhibitions and events nationwide.

Our traffic management plan is reviewed to select the best location for signs, in order to gain maximum coverage and minimise traffic delays to visitors.

Our dedicated Signs team then erect all directional signs promptly to ensure that visitors reach their destination with ease.

Terms and Conditions

  • A minimum order for any event is 20 AA Signs.
  • Dates, days, months, times, brand names, sponsor names and/or logos (other than the AA logo) or anything that could be construed as advertising are not permitted on AA Signs.  AA reserves the right to amend submitted text from a client to enable signage to conform to these rules.  Text on AA Signs is limited to 14 characters across, including spaces and 4 lines down.  We recommend that you keep your text to a minimum to ensure greater exposure of your event/exhibition to drivers.  AA reserves the right to amend submitted text from a client to enable signage to conform to these rules.
  • In certain circumstances, permission from local authorities to erect directional signs may be required. It is recommended that the party employing the AA to erect Signs contact the relevant local authorities to let them know that directional signs will be going up for an event.  Where any separate permission fees are payable e.g. in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and Kilkenny areas, these are payable directly to that authority by the client in advance of confirming AA Signs bookings.
  • 3 weeks' notice should be given to the AA for events/exhibitions requiring directional signage, both for administration and printing purposes.
  • AA Signs cannot be moved, removed or replaced free of charge. Any amendments to signage, once erected, are at the discretion of the AA and may incur a fee. Any fines and/or penalties resulting from the non- submission of a traffic plan etc. will be payable by the event organiser.
  • The onus is on the client to provide the AA with details of any preferred locations or traffic plans (by Gardai/local authorities) for their event.  This must be provided in writing either at the time of booking or at least one week before signs are due to be erected.  If this information is not provided, the AA must presume that there is no traffic plan and signs will be erected in locations at the discretion of the AA Signs Officer
  • AA Signs are erected to direct the motoring public to an event and will be erected prior to the opening of the event to the general public.  They are not erected in advance to direct those involved in setting-up the event; however in certain circumstances, signs may go up earlier to facilitate the schedule of an AA Signs Officer.  Please inform us at booking if you do not want signage to your event to go up earlier than a certain date
  • The AA operates an upfront payment policy; Signs cannot be scheduled, printed or erected prior to receiving payment.  Furthermore, priority will be given in our signs schedule to paid clients.
  • In the event of a cancellation and if AA Signs have not been printed, the client will be invoiced in full.
  • Please be advised AA Signs cannot be erected on motorways without the permission of the National Roads Authority.  This can take up to one month to secure and is not guaranteed, so please advise us at time of booking if motorway signage is required.
  • Currently, only charitable events (events run by and benefiting a charity) may apply for permission to erect signage in Kilkenny City & County; no other events are permitted to have AA Signs in that area.  Organisers may be permitted to have 15 signs erected on payment to the local authority of a special €5 fee per sign, 50% of which is refundable on prompt removal of signage.  Signage is also not normally permitted in Waterford City & County or Co. Wicklow so if signage is required there, you should contact the local authority concerned.
  • Please note that it is an offence to tamper with AA Signs.  Any tampering will result in a direct fine of up to €400.
